Inactivate a Task in MS Project 2013

Task that do not have approval but you want to keep them in your project schedule you can keep them as inactivated. Once you have approval you can reactivate them.

When you inactivate a task, it stays in the project plan, but does not affect resource availability, the project schedule, or how other tasks are scheduled.

Once a task is inactivate that task visible in the plan but strikes it out in the task sheet and on the Gantt chart. Also that task still editable that means you can change duration, cost, start /end date or task text.

Steps To inactivate a task
  1.     Go to Gantt chart view if you are not already

  3.      Go task tab and click Inactivate

To reactivate a task, select the inactive task and then click Inactivate.

Note:
  •  Inactivation is not a good way to archive completed tasks, because it could have unanticipated effects on the remaining schedule. Instead, it is more technically correct to mark the tasks as completed.
  • The ability to ‘Inactivate’ a task is a feature ONLY available with Microsoft Project 2013/2010 Professional.
